‘I see you’: Domestic violence survivor delivers handwritten notes to other victims Feature on WFAA

Jennifer Jones, a domestic violence survivor, has found healing and purpose in writing heartfelt letters of encouragement to other victims. She believes that these letters are a source of therapy for her. Jennifer’s own experience with an abusive marriage, which she concealed for years, led her to start Hagar’s Heart, an online support group for women that later became a non-profit organization. The group provides “I see you” boxes filled with personal care items to women in North Texas domestic violence shelters, along with handwritten letters of encouragement. The letters aim to convey that the recipients are seen, valued, and loved, offering hope and support to those in difficult situations. In about 18 months since its launch, Hagar’s Heart has distributed over 1,000 “I see you” boxes, with the goal of reducing the number of times women return to domestic violence shelters by providing ongoing support and encouragement.
